ALC was founded from a genuine recognition of the need for high-quality, person-centred care closer to home. We wanted to create a service that truly understands each individual and places relationships, respect, and wellbeing at the heart of everything we do.

We believe that everyone is entitled to live a happy and fulfilling life — one that offers meaningful opportunities, positive relationships, and the chance to be understood and valued for who they are.

Our Mission

The core of our mission at ALC, is that relationships come first. We take time to connect, listen and understand every individual, recognising their unique way of experiencing and interacting with the world.

We embrace a neurodiversity-affirming approach, recognising that neurological differences are a natural part of human diversity — not something to be fixed. We respect each person’s strengths, communication style, sensory needs, and identity.

We presume competence, believing that every person has potential, even when it isn’t immediately visible. We adapt our communication and environment to enable individuals to participate, make choices, and be heard.

We are committed to going above and beyond, providing thoughtful, compassionate support that enhances quality of life, encourages autonomy, and nurtures meaningful relationships.

Our Core Values

At Autism Life Centres, we are committed to creating an environment where each individual is supported, empowered, and treated with the utmost respect. Guided by the principles of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), we focus on building meaningful, nurturing relationships that allow people to thrive.

C — Competence
We believe in each person’s ability to grow, learn, and contribute. We nurture this by fostering a culture of positive reinforcement and always presuming competence. Every individual has the potential to achieve, and we are here to support that journey.

E — Enjoyment
Fun, laughter, and creativity are key to a fulfilling and meaningful life. By prioritizing joy in our interactions, we help create positive, engaging experiences where learning and growth happen naturally.

N — Nurturing Relationships
Relationships are the foundation of everything we do. We place a deep emphasis on building strong, trusting, and empathetic connections. Through these relationships, we foster collaboration, mutual respect, and emotional safety, ensuring that individuals feel valued and understood. These connections are essential in supporting individuals to reach their fullest potential.

T — Trust
Trust is the cornerstone of positive relationships. We create environments where honesty, consistency, and reliability are paramount. Through trust, individuals feel safe to express themselves, explore new behaviours, and grow in a supportive space.

R — Respect
We honour each person’s voice, choices, and identity. Respect is central to our relationships, as it enables us to celebrate the unique needs, values, and preferences of every individual. Every person is seen and valued for who they truly are.

E — Empowerment
We empower individuals by encouraging self-determination and providing the tools needed to lead their own lives with confidence and independence. Through empowering relationships, individuals develop the skills to navigate the world on their own terms.

S — Support
We offer personalised, compassionate support that’s focused on the individual. Our approach is grounded in understanding and reinforcing positive behaviours, ensuring that individuals are supported in a way that respects their goals, needs, and preferences.
